Left alone in the night, she calls out, Shall we dance? but no one comes. There is just the distant music floating upstairs, and the sweet sound of party shoes clicking and clacking.When Mabel slides barefoot to the top of the stairs with Curly Dog at her heels, what does she see? Papas in bow ties and mamas in swirling gowns. What does she hear? The music, of course. Before she knows it, Mabel, too, is dancing, gliding down the stairs in a red nightgown, into the bright party light, her blanket swirling behind like a cape.
