Elevenyearold Lindsay is miserable when her family moves from the country to a small northeastern city. But she thinks thats only fair: she blames herself for her little brother Garths injury, which requires special, expensive treatment in the city. Helping her new neighbors protect a cat she finds in the apartmenthouse courtyard, Lindsay discovers that true friends dont have to be your age or look like you. In the process, shes also forced to confront her feelings of guilt about Garths accident.
